Auckland, NEW ZEALAND, 20 November 2018 – The all-new Ford Focus – the most accomplished and technically-competent Focus yet – has been developed from the ground up to provide the most confidence-inspiring, intuitive, and rewarding driver and occupant experience for New Zealanders.

Five-Star Safety

Focus was earlier this year awarded the maximum 5-star safety rating by independent crash test authority Euro NCAP – one of the first vehicles to be awarded the highest rating under new, more stringent testing protocols.

In addition, Euro NCAP recently commended the technologies in the new Focus that are designed to make the vehicle driving experience more comfortable, less demanding and to help drivers avoid or mitigate the effects of accidents.

Ford developed the new Focus using’s the Company’s new €15.5 million sled test crash testing facility in Cologne, Germany, to further enhance safety.

Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection

Standard across the range, the all-new Focus features AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) known by Ford as Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection technology. The Ford Focus system can detect people in or near the road ahead, or who may cross the vehicle’s path. In addition, Focus goes even further with the system’s capability to detect cyclists as well as function in the dark using light from the headlamps.

Should an accident occur, new Post-Collision Braking technology can help to reduce the impact of a potential secondary collision by automatically applying moderate brake pressure when an initial collision event is detected. Slowing the vehicle can potentially lessen injury to occupants and reduce further damage to the vehicle.

Voice-activated SYNC 3 including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is also standard on every new Focus, with a full-colour 8.0-inch touchscreen and full-colour 180-degree reversing camera.

Focus also brings innovations such as under body panels and an active grille shutter, air-curtain technology, as well as air separation features in the rear bumper as part of a cache of design elements that deliver silken aerodynamic efficiency for a 0.27 Cd.

New Power and Efficiency

A new-generation, highly efficient 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine, eight-speed paddle shift automatic transmission and a Ford industry-first cylinder deactivation application for the three-cylinder engine is standard on every new Focus. The new new intelligent eight-speed automatic transmission adapts shift patterns to driving style, and is controlled using a stylish and ergonomic Rotary Gear Shift Dial.

With significant improvements in fuel economy, thanks to advanced materials and weight reduction, the new powertrain also ensures improved drivability with greater power and torque.

It features advanced technology and features including:

A new combination of port fuel injection and direct fuel injection that helps deliver high power – now 134kW – and responsiveness alongside enhanced fuel-efficiency, with a particular increase in fuel-efficiency under light engine loads
A low-friction three-cylinder architecture that delivers naturally high torque at low rpm, with 240Nm developed from a low 1600rpm.
An integrated exhaust manifold that improves fuel-efficiency by helping the engine reach optimal temperatures faster, and delivers torque more rapidly by minimising the distance exhaust gasses travel between the cylinders and turbocharger
An all-aluminium construction for light-weight, improved dynamics and efficiency

Ford’s advanced new turbocharged EcoBlue diesel engine available on the new Focus Trend Wagon is designed to deliver higher power, more torque at low rpm, and enhanced fuel-efficiency and refinement for higher-mileage drivers. The 2.0‑litre EcoBlue engine delivers 110kW, 370Nm of torque, and CO₂ emissions from an anticipated 114 g/km.

In addition to an integrated intake system with mirror-image porting for optimised engine breathing; low-inertia turbocharger; high-pressure fuel injection system that is more responsive, quieter and offers more precise fuel delivery; and standard selective catalytic reduction emissions after-treatment that contributes to improved NO_X reduction, the 2.0-litre EcoBlue features multiple innovations that reduce friction, including:

A 10 mm offset crank design that minimises piston side-load, reducing rubbing forces against the cylinder walls
Steel pistons – used for the first time in a Ford diesel engine – for optimised dimensions and less expansion when hot
Minimised crankshaft bearing diameters
A belt-in-oil design for the camshaft and oil pump drive belts

Ford’s new quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission is engineered to further optimise fuel-efficiency and deliver responsive performance. Standard across the new Focus line up the eight-speed transmission features:

Adaptive Shift Scheduling, which assesses individual driving styles to optimise gearshift timings. The system can identify uphill and downhill gradients and hard cornering, and adjust gearshifts accordingly for a more stable, engaging and refined driving experience
Adaptive Shift Quality Control, which assesses vehicle and environmental information to help adjust clutch pressures for consistently smooth gearshifts. The technology can also adjust shift smoothness to suit driving style

Sporty and spacious

The sporty all-new Focus silhouette is the most aerodynamic in its class. Athletic and dynamic, each model is differentiated with unique elements including a large spoiler and open front apertures for the ST-Line; and contrast silver front and rear skid plates for the Active.

Inside, simple, clean lines, expressive materials and seamlessly integrated surfaces make travelling in the Focus a more calming experience. The front doors now flow fluidly behind the instrument panel for a wrap-around effect, and soft touch materials deliver a more premium feel.

High-end consumer product design is reflected with polished glass and brushed finishes. Unique features and materials include leather for Titanium, sporty carbon fibre-effect finishes and red stitching for the ST-Line, and more rugged, textured materials and surfaces for the Active.

The all-new Focus also provides more space inside for passengers and luggage. More than 5 centimetres additional length between the front and rear wheels allows class-leading knee clearance for rear seat passengers, and all occupants benefit from the wider interior – there are six centimetres more shoulder room in the rear. The impression of spaciousness is enhanced with a rear door design featuring windows that stretch further back for a more open sensation, and an openable panoramic roof that lets light flood into the interior.

Able to accommodate a large dog crate without needing to fold the rear seats, the all-new Focus Trend wagon boot space is easy to access. Folding the rear seats is also simplified – they now drop simply by pulling a switch in the boot space.

Introducing the Focus ST Line and Focus Active

Ford New Zealand is adding two new variants to the Focus line up – the Ford Focus ST-Line and the Ford Focus Active. Both offer the discerning Focus customer additional choice and style to suit.

The Focus ST-Line arrives as a 5-door hatch with unique features and equipment that further develop its distinctive character. This includes a flat-bottom steering wheel, red stitching throughout and unique sports seating. There are also 17-inch alloy wheels and a 10mm lower ride-height for sportier dynamics and more athletic visual presence.

The Focus Active with its elevated ground clearance is an entirely new concept for Focus. SUV-inspired design seamlessly blends form with function to deliver a cabin that is rugged yet sophisticated. The versatile Active crossover delivers practicality, flexibility and utility. Increased ride height and extended wheel arches gives the driver greater command of the road, while larger tyres make the vehicle more stable on all terrains.

The New Ford Focus is covered by Ford’s new five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty. Ford New Zealand has been building a comprehensive after-sales care package since 2016, which already includes highly competitive offerings for customers such as Sat Nav updates, Loan Car, Roadside Assistance extensions when serviced at you Ford dealer , Vehicle Report Cards and Service Price Menus. The new five-year warranty extends the after-sales care package even further, offering customers additional peace of mind when purchasing a new Ford.

In addition, the warranty has other advantages:

The respective warranty is available across every buyer type/sales type.
There are no additional qualifications to the original 3 year/100,000 kilometre Ford Express Warranty.
The 5 years are available “up front” from delivery - It is not a 3+2 conditional warranty.
The balance of the warranty is fully transferrable with the vehicle.
All Ford Genuine and Ford Licensed accessories fitted to vehicles prior to vehicle delivery are covered by the same warranty.
