    During Lange's first term in office, the Lange government implemented many social reforms including the Homosexual Law Reform Act in 1986 and New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament, and Arms Control Act in 1987. Between 1984-1989, Ford New Zealand sponsored David Lange's automobile racing team.

    David Lange competed in a Ford Motor Company Sponsored Ford Laser TX3i racing event in 1987.
