What is the modem in my vehicle?

Your vehicle may be equipped with an embedded modem that provides internet access directly from the vehicle and allows access to vehicle data for the activation of connected vehicle features. The SIM card contained in all modems is a global SIM card which will roam to the strongest signal from one of the three telecommunications carriers. In this way, your vehicle will receive the strongest signal available in that location at that moment.  You cannot access nor change the SIM card in your vehicle’s modem.

Important details about the modem include:

  • The modem uses a SIM card to exchange data.
  • Telecommunications carriers are:
    • Australia - Telstra, Vodafone, and Optus
    • New Zealand - Spark and Vodafone
  • Subscriptions will only include a 3-year Live Traffic subscription with a new vehicle purchase.

Note: The modem fitted to your vehicle will only work with the 3G/4G telecommunications networks. When these networks are no longer available, the modem will stop functioning, and the Connected Services and all data transmission via the modem will cease.
