  • How do I reset the Vehicles Modem connectivity?

How do I reset the Vehicles Modem connectivity?

If you are the first owner, your modem came in a partially activated state. If you are not the first owner, it may be in one of three states – fully activated, partially activated or de-activated.

An in-vehicle Master Reset will reset both SYNC and modem to factory settings.

    For the modem:

    • This means returning it to a partially activated state. This will delete all authorised users, removing access to the Connected Vehicle via any linked FordPass account.

    For the SYNC system:

    • This means erasing all mobile phone data (such as address books) imported from smart phones that had been previously linked to your vehicle via Bluetooth.

Completing this process is particularly important if you are not the first owner. Likewise, please don’t forget to do a Master Reset if you ever sell your vehicle. It is much like wiping your smart phone memory when you upgrade to a new device.

Master Reset InstructionsTo perform: - Sitting in the car, turn the vehicle on and in SYNC select Settings, select General, select Reset, and select Master Reset. when prompted with a confirmation, select Continue.

  • What does it mean a Ford vehicle is Connected?

What does it mean a Ford vehicle is Connected?

A connected vehicle contains a FordPass Connect embedded modem. This is a cellular modem containing a SIM card which enables the vehicle to connect to the internet. Like other parts of a vehicle, it is fitted at the factory. The vehicle’s modem in its factory setting is in a ‘partially activated’ state. This means it is transmitting vehicle diagnostic data to Ford.

To make full use of the vehicle modem, you need to download the FordPass App, create an account and, similar to the concept of Bluetooth pairing, link the two together to create a ‘fully activated’ vehicle. If you are not the first owner, we recommend that you contact Ford to let us know you are the new owner of your vehicle and we recommend you Master Reset your vehicle, as described in another FAQ.

Once fully activated, a range of services such as Remote Start and Lock, Unlock will be available to you. This is a rapidly changing area of vehicle technology with features and connected services added or updated frequently (for example, over-the-air updates). For a full explanation and access to these services, download the FordPass App.

  • What is an Over-the-air (OTA) Update?

What is an Over-the-air (OTA) Update?

Over-the-air (OTA) software updates enables Ford to update your vehicle’s FordPass Connect modem, to keep it up-to-date with new connectivity features, which in turn supports new features with FordPass.

It does not update your in-vehicle SYNC system, nor any other vehicle system, for example updating the modem when the NZ telecommunications 3G network is decommissioned to enable continued communications on the 4G network.

The Modem must be in an Activated state to enable OTA to proceed.
